Tokyo is not one district. Kabukicho (Shinjuku), historic Yoshiwara speech (around Senzoku/Asakusa lore), Ikebukuro, Shibuya, Gotanda, Kinshicho, Uguisudani, and many station names each carry different legal histories, customer imaginations, and comedy cues. JPGRL treats these as public cultural place-names — newspaper and sitcom furniture — not as a catalogue of doors. The metropolitan west (Tachikawa, Hachioji) and other Tama cities add a second layer of station-city nightlife outside the 23-ward myths. Yoshiwara remains the single most cited soapland-district proper noun in Japanese media history — inherited from licensed-quarter geography, now a public street name for a legal bathhouse trade cluster.
