Yamagata City and the Shonai area (including Sakata/Tsuruoka’s orbit) form two poles. Neither exports a nationally famous kanrakugai proper noun. The prefecture’s public culture leans on fruit, onsen, and mountain geography; nightlife remains a local urban fact rather than a tourist genre name.
